Reader Reviews
Purchasing a home is a stressful experience and this book provides a perspective that I don’t beleive exists in the marketplace. Yes, the numbers are important, but identifying the factors that are truly important to you, finding the right people, and approaching the purchase with integrity are so integral to a positive process. The author does an amazing job of highlighting the actual important parts of the process, and providing clear examples from his own career to illustrate the importance of the intangibles. If you are thinking of purchasing a new home anytime soon, please do yourself a favor and read this!
I was very pleased to read Scott Harris’s terrific book on a lot more than how to buy a home. Scott is highly intelligent yet knows how to take complex subjects and explain them on a grade-school level. The book is interesting because he tells his own story — the good, the bad and simply the hard truth about his experiences in real estate, and at the same time gives the potential buyer many interesting ways to understand the process of buying and how to find that dream home. These unique strategies fascinated me and provide the reader with a fantastic way to look and feel and execute on buying a home. The book is a helpful and interesting read. And I hope you find your piece of the American Dream by reading it.
Readers are in for a treat! Scott’s book is so impressive because it reads the way he speaks – with warmth, intelligence and compassion. He really cares about his clients. I say this because Scott was my broker in 2022 and helped me navigate my way through a difficult time. For that, he has by undying gratitude, trust and respect. I think reading Scott’s book will help/educate you too!
Reading The Pursuit of Home felt like having a trusted mentor walk me through every step of buying a home. The author’s stories and strategies make the process feel achievable, not intimidating. I especially appreciated how it goes beyond financial tips – it’s really about finding belonging and creating a future. A must-read for anyone ready to turn their dream of homeownership into reality.
Reading The Pursuit of Home was a little bittersweet. On the one hand, it was refreshing to read Scott Harris’s guide for navigating the home buying process, and how to manage the emotional roller coaster that comes with it. The bitterness came from wishing I had read this before purchasing my first home!
From setting the vision for what home really means to you, to navigating nuts-and-bolts pitfalls like inspections and negotiations, this book is essential for any home buyer. We pulled out of a deal for a New England farmhouse that we thought was our “dream home” because of foundation issues found in the inspection, only to find our true home that has seen so many of our life dreams realized, The Pursuit of Home would have gotten us there with far less mess and stress. And now I’m sending a copy to my parents as they look to downsize and find their next home!
As someone who’s just beginning the journey to find a new home, this book could not have come to me at a better time. The process of buying a home can feel overwhelming and downright mystifying, but this book truly helps to demystify it at every step. Harris’s approach is unique in that he doesn’t just provide tips for navigating real estate—he offers guidance for understanding your own needs, preferences, and emotional responses along the way. The practical checklists, thoughtful personality questionnaires, and honest advice throughout the book make it feel like having a trusted, experienced friend guiding you.
This book has helped ease much of my anxiety about the process, giving me the perspective and confidence to approach home-buying with a clear vision and less stress. Whether you’re buying a home for the first time or simply want to better understand what matters most to you in your next move, I highly recommend this book as a companion for your search.
The author does an incredible job of helping the reader understand the various emotions you (and your partner) may be feeling. How to recognize and deal with them. How to talk to each other. For example, I’m using the Buyer Intake Questionnaire and Buyer Personality Profile with my wife and it’s bringing us closer together because we just go through the questions and talk to each other in a pleasantly organized way.
It achieves the perfect balance between highly practical, nuts and bolts home-buying instruction, and the less tangible side of home buying: fun stories about clients, peeks into the life of a successful real estate agent, and even discussions about the deeper meanings important to buying a home in the first place.
